Handlery Union Square Hotel

This charming hotel is near Union Square and is three blocks from the Powell Street cable car terminus. A public parking garage is one block away and is approximately half the daily cost of hotel valet parking.

The room and the property itself are very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only main issue I had was that the bed was extremely uncomfortable. When I spoke to the front desk about it, the employee informed me that all of the beds at the hotel are the same quality. They came and put a comforter as an extra layer but that didn’t change the comfort very much. I think they should disclose that the bed is a spring mattress. It is also unclear that there is a “historic” and “premiere” side to the hotel. The photos that I saw on Expedia when I booked the hotel were not what the room I checked into looked like. I’m not sure if they are using photos from the “premiere” rooms but it is misleading. The room I stayed in did not have a balcony or view, as the details in the Expedia listing indicated.

This hotel appears much nicer in photos than reality. The rooms are dark and overdue for a refresh. The location is phenomenal and the staff was friendly. It was a fine place for 2 nights where we spent the majority of our time out exploring the city, but if you have a trip planned where you need downtime in your room, I'd look elsewhere.

I stay here often when traveling to the city. This was the first time I had stayed in the historic part of the hotel. It was fine, but the walls were thin. Young girls next to us were up all night - I was torn from being irritated and remembering when I was young and carefree. The giggles were priceless; however, at 5am I called to stop the party. I had a wedding to attend to.

Street Noise & next door guest were really noisy.
