I had a great stay at Andrews Hotel. The location is hard to beat—just a short walk to Union Square and many of San Francisco’s top attractions. The complimentary wine hour from 5–6 p.m. was a nice touch, and the continental breakfast was a convenient way to start the day. My room was cozy, clean, and an excellent value for the price. The only thing I felt was missing was a fitness center. Otherwise, I’d gladly stay here again.

Room was cozy and clean. Bathroom was very compact but adequate for our needs. The room was conveniently located and a great value for the price!

The hotel is beautiful! The elevator is fun and unique. The coffee machine in the lobby is an amazing upgrade! The option for valet parking is very, very helpful. The breakfast is now really, really good as well! The restaurant just off the lobby is one of the best we have been to, and we always go there for a special dinner. Overall there have been some key upgrades and they all were appreciated!

Room was small but perfect for solo traveler on a budget. There’s a store and public transit nearby and bar on site.

Whoever decided to make this 4 stars doesn’t understand the rating scale. This is an ok hotel. It is not 4 stars. The bright pictures and fisheye lens are false advertising. Built in 1905 which makes it cool and historic but it hasn’t been updated the same way other 4-5 star hotels have done. The rooms are small, the beds are old, the shower curtain and window curtain are old and falling down. This is a one night max spot for 1-2 people max. The stairs are a death trap and the elevator is for 2 people max. Staff were friendly and helpful but if you’re looking for a hotel to enjoy this isn’t it. It’s a “we’re just here to sleep” and without A/C, without a fan or window in the bathroom, and zero amenities worth staying around for. If you need a cheap hotel for a night that’s kinda safe… still had plenty of locals loitering out front and in the alley outside our window, then sure it’s 3 star worthy.

The bathroom was also small and the sink broken and glued back together.

The value for the price is high, well located, some people at reception excellent, others not that kind or helpful, it depends of the person. The restaurant adjacent is very good and so the coffee machine. The breakfast is very good for being included.

Nicely maintained older hotel with character. Good breakfast.

The Andrews is a great little hotel, especially for the price. San Francisco is not cheap.

  • Engine customer Jul 2026

The rooms were small but with the prices everything that you need for a short stay was available and staff was really friendly.

We love vintage buildings like the Andrew Hotel and its location near Nob Hill and Union Square was excellent! Quiet room with tall ceilings, older but clean bath with fluffy towels. Decent continental breakfast.

Unique and charming hotel, the location wasn’t perfect but it was well kept

No mini fridge in the room and only one waste basket which was in the bathroom

There’s not much that could be improved, the entire experience was wonderful. Every time we came back to the load and we felt back with friends and knew that our room would be wonderful. Everyone goes out of the way to make your experience the best.

The property and rooms have a lot of charm and character. The elevator is one of those small boxey affairs with a grille that closes before you lift off. We found out that it was built in 1905. The building was well maintained and clean. The problem is the staff. The staff set the tone and the tone is decidedly unfriendly and unhelpful. Maybe that’s not fair. If I asked a question it would be answered. If they ever looked up from their laptops, made a bit of eye contact, perhaps a smile. It would go a long way. The front house staff people don’t understand customer service. The staff at breakfast were the same. No friendliness or kindness. The mood in the breakfast room was somber. Guests kept to themselves, heads down, no eye contact. I think it was a reflection of the tone set by the staff. I came down early for coffee before breakfast and there were paper used cups left out from the night before and the front of house staff behind his laptop, perhaps with the opinion that was not his job, never mind that it looks bad to the customers. There is a coffee machine in the room that was stocked the day we arrived, but no “coffee bags” for other two nights of the staff. Make your mind up, do you provide a coffee service in the room or not. Take the coffee machines out if you don’t provide the means to get a cup. I think the problem is a training issue. It’s ok to have a lovely place, but it could be so much more if the staff were taught the fundamentals of loving your neighbor.

The restaurant, FINO was outstanding. The service was attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list was excellent. The food, especially the veal, was as good as Florence.

Excellent Italian restaurant. Nice, smiling faces. Great coffee machine.
