Howard Johnson by Wyndham San Marcos

The hotel room smelled like pot and cigarettes. We stayed for 4 nights and housekeeping never came and cleaned or changed the trash. Also there was no coffee pot in the room.

Not the best place to stay at. This was a last minute booking and the pictures seemed decent. The whole place didn't feel safe, the bed was old and the backboard was coming apart. The comforter had stains, towels also had odd stains on them and the room smelled like skunk! The front office staff is hardly there, I waited for my receipt and no one came to attend me. Now, I am dealing with them about the deposit. I have yet heard back from them via messages and I have called but I either get hung up on or get transferred to the operator, which the auto-message is on constant repeat and doesn't direct your call. Horrible place.

Booked this room through Expedia, around a month before the trip as it was “reserve now pay later” on the day of check in while I’m making my 4 hour drive I get a notification my room has been cancelled. I called and they LIED saying my card had declined, but they had never tried to charge it, then proceeded to tell me they couldn’t reverse the cancellation all I could do was rebook and a much higher rate than what I originally reserved.

The pictures online are NOT what the property looks like. I was very shocked when pulling in. Staff was very nice but property is not that nice at all. Sheets had stains and just not a very nice place to stay.

The only good thing about this property was the air conditioner was cold. It was dirty, old, unkept, smelled, tv didn’t work, hair dryer didn’t work, the mattresses were extremely dirty, the door bolt lock was broke. I could say more but you get the point.

I never got my $50 deposit back and I had to leave the room due to bed bugs spiders and cobwebs all over plus dirty dirty mattresses!!

Big thing was I requested a first floor room and didn't get it. I'm 72 and just recovering from a severe heart attack, my third one. So the stairs to the second floor for a few days was a real pain. And all he could say was everybody wants a ground floor room. And the first floor I could see was full of young people leaving with swim suits and kayaks to go enjoy the river nearby. And it was only a Motorlodge and not a full fledged Hotel. So needless to say I won't be returning to the HoJo in San Marcos Texas anymore. And I've stayed at Howard Johnsons in several states over the years with my children as they grew up. And all I could do was tell the couple that went with us how good Howard Johnsons was. So they won't be returning to Howard Johnsons either.

The towels were dirty! They didn’t come in to clean the room after my first night there! The sheets looked dirty and there were cigarette burns on them! The pillows were old and dingy pillow cases also! Will not be back

Checked in, went through the smelly, dirty parking lot to my room. Opened the door, walked thru the room and went right back out. Room smelled like smoke, bed sheets didn't fit the bed, room was not cleaned very well, TV is the size of a computer screen. The entrance area in front of rooms sleek line cat urine. Lobby is dark, check in desk is messy, eventually it's very outdated and truly not welcoming. I came back to the office and conveyed to the staff the I was very sorry but I cannot stay here. He replied no problem, I'll refund your stay in a couple of days. I'm waiting for the refund.

Worst of all, I feel like the lady who called to confirm my reservation, despite it already having been paid online, tried to get my CC number. I did NOT give it to her and she said my room may be given to someone else. SCAM! And, I did verify that she was an employee of this hotel when I arrived!

There were four of us and there were only two bath towels.

The rooms inside where clean but the outside needs work. Looks like a little run down.

Best price in San Marcos for the quality.

The room was okay it wasn’t clean or dirty, there was a dead bug in the corner. The sheets where stained and two of the pillows the bed had smelled. The parking are kind of small and the air conditioning was good and also the staff. So it was okay overall.

Front desk was friendly. Breakfast is severely lacking. One kind of bread and one kind bagel. Coffee and whole milk.

Happy with my room

Everything about this stay was absolutely terrible the staff and management absolutely completely rude as can be they argued with me about my pet who is a service dog and accused of being a liar even after presented with the documents and literally came to my room a second time saying they needed to see her certificate and while I was pulling it back out they continued to accuse me of lying telling me when is my checkout that I need to not reserve any more nights there called me disrespectful said they don’t want me there and that I better keep it clean which I was very dissatisfied with the room upon arrival there were several dead insects on the floor and in the shower the bed was filthy and the ac was off taking forever to get the room to comfortable temperature and when my wife and daughter were going to the pool the man in the office said it opened at 8 am and so they go only to be told by the manager they couldn’t be in there because the sun would hurt their skin to come back at 10:30 am when check out is at 11 and kept telling them every ten min what time it was and how much longer until check out again it was absolutely ridiculous and the worst stay I ever have had at a hotel I will never stay there or at a Howard Johnson again because of it and I don’t recommend any one else should stay there either unless they like being completely disrespected and treated like trash

The hotel was a very convenient to get to the school, The door needed repairs.
