Secret Garden Inn and Cottages

The garden is very pleasant, the hot tub was clean and functional, the bed was comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and there was plenty of parking. Dominique and her staff made us feel really comfortable, and we appreciated the effort to maintain such a cozy and charming inn. Our initial room had a couple of issues - the A/C did not work very well, and the bath tub faucet was unable to be shut off properly. This resulted in our room needing to be changed, but our other room was excellent and had none of these issues. Dominique was very understanding, and it seemed like the issue was more with the prior handyman saying the faucet was fixed when it really had not been.

Very shaded, tranquil and garden like setting in the heart of residential Santa Barbara . Our room had a private hot tub and court yard which added to the resort like feel. Our host Dominque was very attentive and a sweet , friendly lady. Her morning breakfasts were delicious and classy …. The little was unit AC didn’t work so well and w/ the mid day sun beating down on the cottage you need some cooling. Parking is provided but don’t drive a large vehicle, it’s tight .

Quiet garden setting

If you’re looking for a quiet garden setting this is it. Centrally located but with a garden/yard that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Loved walking the sidewalks through the gardens. Staff friendly and accommodating. Our cook/waitress served up a wonderful breakfast with quiches, breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruits, croissants with jams, juice and coffee in the courtyard every morning.

Nice location in residential Santa Barbara, just blocks away from main street. State Street. Like a camp for adults... The cottages were clean but in need of attention and upkeep. This was especially true for the grounds, the small gardens by each cottage and outdoor potches and steps. Exposed and jutting out screw and nail heads. Gutters were leaf and debris filled. Instead of having a garden enchanted setting, the grounds seemed neglected. Quite a contrast from the Chesire Cat, where we stayed last.

Quaint bed and breakfast. Delicious breakfast every morning! Everything was lovely.

I did not like anything about the hotel.

Not much. The pictures did not accurately show the current poor state of the property. The rooms are old and the grounds were a mess.

Would not recommend. I found bugs in the shower and room was lot smaller than how pictures appeared online. Also, stray cats roam property. Property overall is not in good condition

This was our second stay at the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages, and there are some pros and cons: PROS - the overall cleanliness; the comfortable touches of bed, bedding and bathroom in a relaxing atmosphere (more like a retreat) that reflects a home away from home; the hot tub is a HUGE bonus; a home cooked breakfast delivered hot is hit or miss depending what's on the menu???; private parking. CONS - the house staffing is limited without any response by phone concerning early arrival (made myself comfortable on the porch settee); the overall property needs updating (electrical in room was questionable; outdoor siding is rotting/termites/weathered; gaps in brick pathways. OVERALL - I would stay here again knowing the idiosyncrasies. The breakfast was not as exquisite as our previous stay that included fresh squeezed o.j., tropical fruit, fluffy omelettes with toast, butter and pastries.

Unclean room, unsafe, overpriced, not as advertised, terrible staff, do not recommend.

I wish I could give the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages a perfect 5-stars but check-in was a disaster. Check-in was to start at 3 pm, but when my wife and I got there just before 3 pm, no one was there to check us in until 3:20 pm. Then we discovered our room at the Inn was different than what we had reserved. The room itself was ok, just a bed, dresser and two chairs, pus bath. The breakfast was excellent, home-made quiches and croissants with jam, OJ, coffee, melon. So mixed review.

It was a lovely stay. Mrs Dominque is so kind and we had an amazing weekend! Walkable neighborhood
