Villa Rosa Inn

There was no one at the desk. Check in was at 3 that was it. When one got there at 2:45 there wasn’t a person around. They did emerge at 3. We did not get the room we booked. It was considerably smaller. when I commented on this the desk person said, It’s a king bed isn’t it. It was not the large room we ordered. This hotel is one block from the beach if this is your priority you will be alright. No air conditioner, please note but there is parking for free.

Street parking. Walking distance to beach/pier/ State St. Room was small and outdated. No A/C, had to open all windows which exposed us to mosquito bites.

We were staying in a super hot spell so not having any air conditioning anywhere on the property was not ideal - but kind of expected for Santa Barbara with it's typical mild weather. Better portable fans or a ceiling fan would have been nice.

The room was disgusting. Paint was bubbling and peeling. The room was dirty. Even though I prepaid for two nights, I left first thing the next morning to got another room elsewhere

Quirky and charming. Great location. Didn’t realize it doesn’t have air conditioning. We enjoyed sitting outside and appreciated the free parking. We weren’t there for happy hour or breakfast.

It’s clean and cozy and close to the beach

I love this place so much. Little hidden garden seating spots. Beautiful plants, art, sweet balcony. The staff was kind and warmly welcomed my old man dog. A gorgeous old building. beautiful tile work. it had a creative sparkle. warm and unpretentious.

I would strongly not recommend staying at the Villa Rose Inn. The cleanliness of the room was poor. There is no air conditioning and the fans were not effective. May key card kept getting deactivated which meant numerous calls and trips to the front desk to get it reactivated. The shower did not work. There were absolutely no amenities. The yard near the cottages looked like a junk yard with refrigerators, old appliances and furniture scattered around. I left after three nights (had booked 6 nights). I left because I was getting ill. I requested a refund and was denied. I can go on but this is more than enough.

Exceptional

The location is great, but unfortunately that was about the only positive for me. There is only street parking, no air conditioning, and my room was filthy, from the linens to the bathtub. The entire property felt neglected rather than simply old or charming. The icing on the cake was discovering that a hole in my front door had been “repaired” by wadding up a piece of paper towel and stuffing it into the hole. That pretty much summed up the level of maintenance I encountered. Villa Rosa has so much potential because of its location, but the condition and cleanliness were unacceptable during my stay. Read the recent reviews and look at traveler photos before booking. I wish I had.

It appeared like there were not enough people working there as long wait times at reception. When they were there they did help though. The breakfast here can only be described as very basic at best, not great quality or choice and a cramped space which was a shame. There was no AC in our room, not sure if that is for the whole hotel. We asked what could be done and to be fair they arranged for us to moved to the hotel next door (same owners). This did have working AC but the room smelt of weed/smoke and we noticed the smoke sensor had a bag over it. last issue was that we booked through Expedia but paid at property, and they overcharged us. I had to go between Expedia and the hotel raising the issue as neither took responsibility. At first the hotel over charged us again but eventually after a few days of escalating/chasing the correct price was charged but this did affect our experience here unfortunately.

Very good

Parking is limited, but I eventually did get a spot. No AC. But for evening, it doesn't really matter, because it cools down quite a bit, but if planning to spend anytime in the room, the rooms we had number 5. And number 8 were very, very hot. We also had a weird situation with the heater turning on and making funny sounds. Maybe not turning on, but making funny sounds for an hour or 2 late in the evening. Overall, very good, great location.

The best thing about Villa Rosa Inn is definitely the location. It is very close to the beach and waterfront, and our room had a lot of space, which I really appreciated. However, at over $500 per night, I expected much more for the price. The inn advertises a continental breakfast, but what was provided was very limited and, in my opinion, not very good. The breakfast did not come close to matching what I would expect at that price point. The location and spacious room were positives, but overall I felt the stay was significantly overpriced for what was offered. I would consider staying here again at a much lower rate, primarily because of the excellent location, but I would not pay over $500 a night again.
