Residence Inn by Marriott Washington, DC Downtown

Good location (although there are two Residence Inns and taxi driver took us to the wrong one at first so beware!). Room was spacious. Breakfast was good. Kitchen was pretty well stocked. The shower was temperamental and most times wouldn't get warm enough. The fold out sofa bed was unusable - really uncomfortable mattress with springs sticking through. Looked a bit tired and old.

Es un buen hotel por ubicación y servicios. Un buen desayuno diario aunque no varía mucho. Habitaciones amplias y cómodas aunque la que usamos (513) no tiene caja de seguridad en la habitación. Personal muy cordial y ayudan mucho. Una gran ventaja es que tengan un rent-a-car en el hotel.

I was all prepared to give a 5-star review - when I received by email a notice that I had been charged $4.95 per day for “data service”. No one ever mentioned any extra charges for Internet, assuming that’s what this was. Otherwise this hotel was great - large, clean, comfortable rooms with a full kitchen, a laundry room and a gym. They had a terrific daily free breakfast that included gluten- free items individually wrapped plus a dedicated bagel slicer and toaster oven. I can’t imagine why they chose to have such a deceptive charge tacked on at the end without any explanation.

Parking was $65/night, underground, very tight, and no elevator to haul your suitcases. It’s two flights of stairs to the lobby. That’s important for many people to know. Breakfast was good, lots of options. We walked to many sites and restaurants. Bed was comfortable.

First the good things: Room was spacious and well stocked. Large with plenty of room for three of us. We had some incidents during our stay that included a faulty toilet, a faulty fire alarm, and the other thing that was alarming was that the web site quoted $50 a night for parking, but it ended up being $54 plus $10 taxes. $64 a night for parking is a good bit more than $50! I was shocked. But overall, it was a good stay, and I would stay here again.

The room was just perfect for 1 or 2 people staying for a week or 2. The kitchenette was exactly what was needed to keep my travel costs at an affordable rate. I will definitely stay here next time I am in town.
