Motel 6 West Des Moines, IA

It was a Motel 6, so expectations weren't high. The room was OK, and it's always nice not to pay extra for a pet. However, the exterior was in pretty bad shape. The sidewalks were cracked an splitting, windows were foggy and dirty.

The motel was okay. It was a place to stay for the night while in town for an event. The staff was nice, the motel needs maintenanced and updated. The towel bar in the bathroom was falling off and the vent in the bathroom didn't work. There's no hair dryer or iron. It looked like there were spots of prior paint on the wall the bed sat against. It almost looked like wall decorations had been removed and left prior paint spots that weren't the current color of the wall. The room was clean. The motel fit our budget but we got what we paid for via a low budget.

The room was gross. Bathtub wouldn’t drain fast so there was just dirty water after a shower. No water pressure. One pillow per person and they were super lumpy. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. Could feel the springs in the bed. Three towels provided. They are extremely small. Everything felt grimy and gross. It smelled like pee in the elevator. I didn’t even want to walk on the floor barefooted. Staff were fast and that’s really the only good thing. If you’re staying for one night and don’t mind being uncomfortable, this is the place for you.

The staff was helpful, the dog walking area was great- good grassy areas and well lit. Not all the light fixtures in the room were functional. I would return on future trips.

Cheap room rates with a handy location. Not a place for high expectations but a place to get some rest.

All I wanted was a shower and a bed. And I found that here. It's not fancy. It's old and shows the wear and tear. I wouldn't trust the pool. But it was clean and the staff were friendly. If all you want is a place to crash, this place works just fine.

The bathroom was a little too dirty for me to be comfortable taking a shower without shower shoes/flip flops on. Other than that it was a cozy room with minimal noise, just a few minutes away from everywhere I wanted to go.

Air Conditioner wouldn't work, security was weak

The location is excellent and convenient to many local features. They have not repaired the swimming pool since it changed owners several years ago. Thus, there is no swimming. The worst feature was the room I was placed in. It was on the first floor by some exit doors. They were never locked. NEVER. Night or day. If I remember right, a Motel 6 was sued successfully for damages after a woman was attacked. I used the security lock on my room door, but the outside doors should be locked day and night. I will find another hotel in the future when I am in Des Moines since the management is not on top of things like the locks and the swimming pool.

Honestly the air conditioning works good until night time it shuts off but the tv doesn’t work whatsoever, tried YouTube, no connection, tried Netflix that doesn’t work, tried just connecting my phone for hours and multiple issues just ended up watching the channels which was alright I guess
