Sonesta Simply Suites Des Moines

We were in town for a wedding and needed a place to stay the night, this was perfect! Very quiet and clean overall, and the room itself was huge compared to other options we looked at in the area.

There is one ac unit for the entire suite. They have rigged the unit in the living area to supply air to the bedroom. They used some old piece and put it on top of the new unit. The piece isn't even fully attached...so the bedroom was pretty hot. It seems like they updated some stuff and not others. Someone's dog left a gift in the hallway. The staff did get it when I told her. I had to get linens for the sofa bed because none were in the room like there supposed to be. I asked for an early check in, and was told it was based on availability, and it was booked up. When I got there and for the the weekend they it was pretty bare. The second person told me it would be $20 to check in early. I 'm glad I didnt pay any extra for this place. Definitely will not stay at a Sonesta again. This is my first impression of their hotels.

nothing I stayed here before they remodeled the hallways They got rid of the coffee in the lobby and only left 1 serving in the room even though their were 2 of us. They never cleaned the room even though we were there 4 days. Our room was 25 rooms away from the elevator. I asked on the second day if we could get a room closer to the elevator as my wife is recovering from a broken ankle. They said they didn't have any extra rooms which didn't make sense as we were giving our room for a different one.We will never go back

Trash cans on property were overflowing. Check-in time was a late 4p.m. and then there were lines of people waiting to check in. At 4p.m. someone came to the desk and activated the computer, so it was ready to operate at 4:05 p.m. Liked location though it was a little hard to find.

We stayed for 12 nights. Our toilet was messed up on a daily basis. We never actually got a maintenance person to help fix it, they’d just drop a plunger off and the toilet would stop working again the next day. We requested housekeeping 5 days in a row and NEVER got it. The front desk people argued with me and said that for a stay of 12 nights we didn’t qualify for any housekeeping at all. Disgusting place. Avoid at all cost.

The room was decent, We were there for 2 weeks and our room never got cleaned! We were told that the rooms only get cleaned every 14 days! That was unacceptable! We cleaned our own room and emptied the garbage every other day. The trash receptacles at both ends of the hallway of our floor were always overflowing, The hallway and elevator were always dirty. Most of the staff was very nice and professional except one female. She was very rude and nasty! I would never recommend this place to anyone and I will never ever stay there again!

Our room was clean and the kitchen was reasonably well stocked with a toaster, pots, pans, silverware, and glasses. The standard sized refrigerator/freezer and the stovetop were both nice. Other limited small appliances were available from the front desk. The property's grills were in average condition. The grill utensils available from the desk were very good. The only actual food onsite was in the form of frozen sandwiches from a vending machine (which we ate the night we arrived as it was too late to go out to get other food) and they were actually decent, but a bit pricey. We had a suite with a separate bedroom and if we closed the door, the bedroom was miserably warm, so the air conditioning was less than great. The common areas on the property were not kept particularly clean and the same drips and dirt remained on the tile floors for days. If you want to wash some laundary, I would strongly recommend that you find an external laudary mat, as we paid $10 per load (a total of $30 for three), not just because of the cost of the loads (wash & dry), but because of the high "exchange rate" to use their app to operate the equipment. We purchased our own detergent at Walmart. There was plenty of parking around the building but the locks on the building entry doors were inconsistent and often would not open with the room keys. We had two small dogs, so we borrowed a broom a couple of times. Having one in each room would be better. The staff was pleasant & quite helpful,

The room was clean and the air and shower worked very well. The check in took a while we arrived late and no one was at the desk. The number we called didn't transfer to the on call person. They finally showed up and got us in.

The property had an update / freshing up a few months ago. It looked really good compared to when we stayed last year. The rooms, while still a bit dated, were clean. Bed linen also looked clean. Friendly staff. With the update in mind. The hallway floors didn’t look like they weren’t cleaned during the 2 weeks we were there. Also there was no leeway on check in time. 4:00 PM was check in and arriving a 3 weeks were told we needed to wait to check in.

Very clean and great location. There was no housecleaning.

I stayed for a week and had a very comfortable stay. Lots of restaurants and stores close by. Quick access to the interstate. Like at least one other has said, they need to get at least one ice machine real bad.

We had a terrible experience with this hotel. We showed up before check-in at 3. Said we couldn’t check-in yet which was fine. However we told them we would be back at 4 as we were going to the state fair. We got back at 4 and were told our rooms weren’t clean. We waited 30 minutes and then were told only one room was ready but they wouldn’t let us check into both rooms. Fine. We put everything in one room. Was told by the lady that we needed to call in around 7 to pre-check in for the other room because no one is at the front desk after 11 and we would lose our reservation. We called at 7 to pre-register. She then tells me when we get there she needs all our information again because it’s a separate reservation now. I told her that was fine but we wouldn’t be back until after midnight. She said that was fine. We show up at 1215 to finish checking in and going to ur room. There was no one at the front desk. We called the phone number for 45 minutes with no answer. There were 3 other guests waiting for their room too. The other 3 couples left. We waited because we had one room already. Finally just after 1 she comes running down the hall. No apology and was super rude. Said the phones must be broke and she will let management know. Overall a terrible experience.

One of the best places I have stayed at. Very clean, had a full size refrigerator, had a cooking stove, dishwasher and dishes! Would definitely recommend

The checkin experience was terrible. Rude, had to wait till 4 to checkin, gave me the wrong room, not what I booked. Internet slower than dialup days. Don't let the cheaper price fool you. Like the old saying goes, You get what you pay for.

Someone had thrown a rock at my car windshield. Now there's a crack to the windshield. I had an appointments and didn't get a police report.

The hotel was clean but I had an issue with the bath tub not draining properly since the day I checked in. It was not fixed before check out. The paint us peeling and the bathroom smelled like urine before I cleaned it. Bed was soft and cozy

Great place

We stayed a week and the staff was excellent. The room was spacious with a huge tv. I was able to setup my work station. The Ethernet couldn’t connect because the wall cover was too small but I was able to use WiFi. The kitchenette was very convenient. The only thing I didn’t like was the bathroom didn’t have a ventilation fan. I would definitely stay again.

The AC worked, but leaked water/condensation on the carpet below soaking it making it difficult getting to bed. You had to be very careful otherwise your feet/socks would get soaked.
