Loved the grounds and the bed was top tier

Nice hotel, we stayed in an old room. That still smells like a wood burning fireplace. Needs a little updating. Good location

The location is impossible to beat, and we'd certainly stay here again for the convenience. However, we had more than one odd interactions with staff that were inexplicably brusque or rude. I usually don't leave such comments, because I'm not looking for special treatment, but eye contact and a willingness to help someone in a store or cafe seem a baseline for such a storied property.

I’ve stayed at the Lodge several times in the past. All of those stays were OK to Wonderful. This time I was a solo with my hands full with my luggage. I was assigned room 4303. I was with a group, so I didn’t want to hold the rest up while I settled in. As I headed for my room, I noted the lack of any staff to help in any way with finding my room. I entered the South Hall and roamed to the end of the hall to find two sets of stairs and a landing on the other side of a door. Surely they didn’t expect an 86 year old man with lots of luggage to handle that staircase, so where could the room be. I got onto an elevator, but the floor above had the wrong set of numbers. So I staggered back to the lobby with all of my luggage. Nobody at the front desk noticed my quandary. I rejoined my group and two of them more knowledgeable of the Lodge helped me to find my room, tucked in sorta under those stairs down. I noticed that the curtain on the window was controlled by a rope and knots that one could tie and untie. This room almost seemed like a punishment. What had I done wrong? Oh yes, I arranged for my two night stay through Expedia, maybe incurring the wrath of the establishment. The room also was ill-lit, with only two bedside lamps to light up the room. The bathroom light helped a bit, but the table under the TV was unusable without a good flashlight or a lantern. If I ever have to stay at this hotel again, I will insist on knowing all about the particular room I am to stay in.

Wonderfully historic property in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. Easy walking distance to shopping, restaurants and historic tours. My rating is due to no access to filtered water on the property. Even the front desk said their larger filtered cooler was not working This needs to be corrected. Either add filtered water access to the water fountains (which have no water pressure), add access near ice machines in each of the buildings or provide better access outside of meeting rooms. Lack of filtered water access was not due to historic preservation but more likely due to revenue. They are charging $7 a bottle for it in the guest rooms and in the gift shops.

Location, staff, food—all fantastic!

Note that there are several ad-on charges, e.g., for parking, resort fee etc. Small restaurant with limited selection in the building. Breakfast is good - either buffet or per order. Rooms are spacious, nice and clean. Good beds. Biggest advantage - very short walk to the historical buildings.

Obviously dated but the nice amenities and super nice staff made it a great stay.

Marvelous time. Great hotel. It isn't the newest but it is charming and it couldn't be more convenient. It's inside Historic Williamsburg and walking distance to William & Mary.
