Midtown West Hotel

Good option if you're needing a place near Penn Station (2 minute walk). This is definitely a budget hotel and with no elevator, adjust your expectations accordingly. That said, the other options in this price range are all shared bathroom situations. The room was basic, but clean, and if you don't wear earplugs, you'll need them as people on the street are shouting at it each other at all hours (it's NYC, so to be expected, I suppose). The guy at the front desk was friendly, but I could tell he was sick of being asked for a room on first floor to avoid lugging suitcases up the stairs.

This hotel is a real scam, they show pictures of rooms that are not at all what you get when you get there. My room was dirty from the start, there are many floors and no elevator, the surroundings in Midtown are full of junkies and it’s dangerous to go outside. In general a very bad experience at a high price.

My room was visibly dirty. Hair in the toilet. A bench covered in stains. The bedsheets weren’t clean, either, and were covered in hair and unidentifiable black spots.

Our room was very small. Everything was updated (good bed, nice mirrors, new floor and paint). A few things needed attention, including: very slow-draining sink, loose shower-stall door handle, very low A/C remote battery. A/C (worked, but fan made constant loud, squeaking noise), bathroom wall heater and bathroom door need cosmetic work. There's an ATM and a microwave near the Front Desk. The hotel is a very short walk to Penn Station (8th Av and W 33rd St exit), and the Tik Tok Diner on 8th and W 34th had a very good breakfast and friendly staff.

Nice location super close to Madison Square Garden. Lots of restraunts near by also.

This hotel room had almost none of the basic amenities you would expect in a hotel that costs this amount, or even half of this amount. The sink backed up immediately, and it was never repaired despite my request. There is no electrical outlet in the bathroom. There was no shade to block light out from nighttime lights and sunrise. There is no lid on the toilet and the only flat surface in the bathroom is mounted just above the toilet, meaning your supplies could fall in the toilet. Mine did. The hallway stairs door slams shut unless a guest is thoughtful enough to softly close it, which most were not. My reservation was for three nights and two people, but there was only one bath towel and one hand towel in the bathroom when I arrived. No bath mat on a shiny tile floor, which is very hazardous. The management should be ashamed to provide accommodations this sparse and rickety for the amount they were charging.

It was one of the few hotels left to book. But $250 a night for a room that’s about the size of a bathroom, is ridiculous. Everything else. There’s no elevator, the rooms are tidy, if you leave your luggage, it’s not secured, if you open the bathroom door, it hits the bed, even though the door is half size. The sink is tiny, and the faucet obstruct most of the sink, the shower is tiny, there’s no place to put any of your toiletries so you have to put it on the bed while you’re in the bathroom. The bed is the size of a child’s bed.

Train and subway steps away from hotel. Convenient store below, no elevator-4 floors, pack lite! Room is small and older looking but if it's to lay ur head for a night or two, then it's okay.limited staff. Air conditioner was cold. They have baggage hold before & after check in.

Small room but very clean and comfy. Staff was very nice. Super close to MSG; perfect if you are attending an event.

First the good: - affordable - close to transit - many food options within 5 blocks - super convenient if you are going to a show a Madison Square Garden - clean room, bathroom, and bedding The not so good: - noisy (you are right on a busy street and cars HONK constantly) bring ear plugs - small - air conditioning is hit or miss sometimes - the neighborhood is active and the small convenience store at the street level of the hotel has a large transient population around it I was never bothered and felt safe / fine while I was there. The price was right for me as I was out and about from 7am to 10pm daily.

The hotel location was perfect, the room was very clean and served its purpose.

I suspect this place is still going based on the location (which is great for train travelers and tourism). It’s bare bones and best for a one night sleep. The towels and curtains were stained. We were able to secure clean (looking) towels easily, though. Too easy in and out for the neighborhood. A nearby bartender wished us “good luck” in there. Appreciated the relatively affordable late checkout.

Comfy bed. Updated bathroom. Lobby needs a makeover. WiFi did not work. Room and bathroom layout bad and furniture dated. Hardly any storage. Very noisy as ground floor.

Hotel did not have toilet paper when we arrived. Door was ajar when we went upstairs - meaning anyone could have snuck in before we got there. There was no water on premises, other than out of the bathroom sink. Staff was helpful and there was a spot for luggage to stay if you want to explore the next day.

Location, ease of check in, overall convenience: Cleanliness, overall aesthetic could be improved. There were certainly stains on the walls, and the sheets were stained but seemingly clean. Bathroom likely had poor ventilation that caused a mildew smell and the shower (we didn’t use) but was it sealed proper. Bugs in the bathroom scared the heck out of me in the middle of the night. It is noisy but right by msg so expected.
