McMenamins Crystal Hotel

What a unique little gem of a hotel. It's in a building from 1911, so it's quirky, old, and squeaky, but has charm and is updated with a funky decor.. The room was small but clean and perfectly fine with a mix of funky and old fashioned. Downside was it just had sink and there were four shared bathrooms on each floor - but I guess that's how they did things 115 years ago. You have to decide if no bathroom is a deal breaker. Staff was nice and friendly. There's a restaurant/bar, a basement bar where they had a comedy show going on. There's even a basement swimming pool. Good location. Nice to experience something different.

I loved the style and vibes of this hotel! I personally love staying in quirky funky places and this met the mark for me- but for guests who need more privacy or easy and accessible parking, I'd skip this pla. The location is great for exploring downtown Portland, two blocks from Powell's and close to so many shops!

Love the pool! Room was clean and comfortable.

We grabbed a beverage from the bar and went to the spa right after check in and had it all to ourselves. Very comfortable and relaxing. Such a hidden gem! The restaurant had delicious dinner and breakfast options and the complimentary coffee was very nice. The elevator is slow, so we took the stairs!

We love love love all of the McMenamins brands and this was no exception. Super cool building, wonderful food and drink and the staff was incredible. Couldn’t recommend more.

The listing here had no information about the shared bathrooms. If I had known I would have booked a suite or another hotel. Was very frustrating to only find out when we got to the room. Other than that was a good place.

Great place

Friendly staff, clean facilities, close to the restaurant and bar and an easy walk to the center of the city. Right across the street from Jake’s, one of my favorite restaurants. Mattress was a little off (one side sunk further in than the other). Room was very small, but the building itself must be at least 100 years old. The facilities are scaled based on what the building allowed. This wasn’t a major problem, because if you are visiting Portland in the summer, the majority of your time is spent outside. The air conditioning was a big plus as well. Smaller rooms share bathrooms located just outside in the hallway. Really nothing more than a minor inconvenience. All in all, a pleasant stay.

Dark and dreary- a horror film set. Bathroom down the hall was unplanned adding to the misery. Quirky is fine- but not what I was expecting.

I love the people, the rooms, the atmosphere, the pool, and the restaurants and bars! I often choose to fly out of the Portland airport rather than the one closer to me, just so that I can stay a night on either end of my work trips at the Crystal!

Great food, fun ammenities!

Bring some sandals or something, you share bathrooms with everyone on the floor. The soaking tub was lovely. The wines were fantastic. The cocktails in Al's were wonderful. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Probably the best experience I've had in a hotel.

I would not book a room without it's own bathroom again. When you need to go you need to go.
