Lovely, helpful staff. A unique and interesting hotel in an interesting part of town. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and can’t wait to go back. Parking was easy and inexpensive. I loved the Poe references, the architecture and the quirkiness of buildings that have been combined over many years. I especially loved the hotel kitty cat named Annabelle Lee!

Comfortable room, friendly staff, great history!

Really mediocre stay. Our room was grimy and dark, and we could hear our neighbors detailed conversations late into the night. There were weird brown stains on the walls and curtains. The bed was very squishy. When we requested to switch rooms, the front desk kept saying to check with them later and that they would contact us, which they never did. For $350 per night, it was an absolutely terrible value. We will look elsewhere next time we visit Richmond.

Love the historical building. Felt like living in the early 1900’s but with the modern amenities (both room, AC and coffee maker etc).

We arrived at the hotel around 2:00 PM, and check-in was at 3:00 PM. Since I have VIP status with Expedia, I thought I might be able to check in early. I asked the staff member at the front desk, who was by himself at the time, and he simply told me, “No, I don’t have a room for you yet.” I left right away and didn’t bother mentioning my VIP status. I didn’t like how cold the interaction felt, although I understand that he was just following the hotel’s 3:00 PM check-in policy. We came back at almost 4:00 PM, and there was a different staff member at the front desk. He was completely different—very pleasant and welcoming. He even accompanied us to the room and helped us find it. That pretty much sums up my experience with the staff during my stay: mixed. The first staff member was cold and unwelcoming, while the second was friendly, helpful, and pleasant. The room itself was very dated, but it was clean. The bed was quite high, but I liked that it was firm. The AC, however, was extremely annoying. About every 10 minutes, I would wake up because of the noise it made whenever it automatically turned on. The location is good, but the surrounding area is a little boring. There aren’t many good restaurants within walking distance. Overall, I don’t thi

Huge rooms! Character! And a cat! After staying at some bigger chain hotels, I thought it was time for something different - this inn is historic, has a great location right next to the library and around the corner from Perly's Delicatessen, and Annabelle is a friendly cat that even this dog lover could appreciate. There are some tradeoffs like older locks/keys and thinner walls, but to me this was a memorable stay and I even got an Edgar Allan Poe tote bag. Will definitely return when it's a bit cooler out and I can manage walking a bit further - check it out!

The inn offers an old historic charm with updated amenities, great location and very polite staff.

The hotel is old and show signs of age. Lighting in the room was not good.

Loved the property overall, the history and charm were lovely. Our room was bottom level and felt very much like a basement. No windows directly to the outside. The bathroom could have used some updating even just cosmetic to make it feel cleaner. Being that we were there in a very quiet Sunday night, the hotel definitely was not full and I feel a nicer room could have been offered. I would stay again because of the location and price, but would ask for a second or third floor or courtyard facing room. Also there is a resident cat that would like nothing more than to join you in your room, so if you happen to be severely allergic, be aware. Very friendly and helpful staff!

I really enjoyed my stay! The staff was super friendly, my room was spotless, and the overall environment was clean and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.

A nice old hotel with a lot of charm. We have only two complaints. One is that the front desk was often unmanned, including when we arrived to check in - it took a while to find someone to check us in. The other is that the hotel did not offer breakfast and breakfast options in the neighborhood are limited.

Lovely historical hotel. Beautiful old-world charm rooms. Clean, big bathroom. Parking is not available within the hotel, but there is paid parking 5 min walking distance, slightly inconvenient in the rain, but worth it. We loved the lobby kitty. It was pretty cute. The only thing that could have been better was receiving two sets of physical keys instead of one, especially with three people traveling. ( They don't issue standard digital keycards). It is an actual old-world key. On the whole, it was a good place, and we definitely recommend this hotel. Air conditioned worked nicely, room clean and staff helpful.

We found this hotel to be OK. It's a bit overpriced for what it offers. It's really just old with not many updates. The wall paper is peeling in some areas, the bathroom fixtures are missing parts, the room floor has damage under the carpet, the refrigerator is noisy and the outside entry door is loud upon closing
