The staff was very nice. After we checked in and got to our room, we realized the toilet would not flush. The front desk sent someone up to fix it immediately. Later that night, after we got back from the concert we attended, we grabbed the two complimentary bottles of water located inside the lower shelf of the sideboard only to realize that one of them was open and had been drunk out of. When I went downstairs, the front desk gave us new water. When we arrived, I tipped the valet $20.00, yet we unloaded our bags on our own onto a trolly that had a wheel that had a faulty wheel (it was the only trolly available) and barely fit inside the elevator (only one of our party could squeeze in around it to ride up to our floor). We were clearly struggling with getting it into the elevator, yet no one offered to help. Upon arriving at our room, we discovered the toilet did not work. Later that night we found that one of the complimentary bottles of water had already been opened and half the water drunk out of it. There was a thick layer of dust on the shelf where the towels were located. The pull out couch was incredibly uncomfortable.

This was a great spot when it opened but the management company and ownership have not invested in maintenance, upkeep, or professional staff. I am never one to complain but do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else but here. I mean this place is such a joke that they have plexiglass coverings for the windows because the windows are not sealed properly and thus significant amounts of mold has grown in the windowsills

Location was great!

We had an excellent stay. The Commonwealth is a perfect combination of new and freshly remodeled, while also offering real charm and historical tradition. We booked a suite, which was fantastic as it allowed out 18-year-old son (who just started his Freshman year at the University of Richmond) to sleep in the pull-out sofa bed on two nights. This allowed my wife and me to spend some great "late night" time catching up with him before we turned in. Anton at the bar was excellent, offering great conversation alongside awesome drinks.

Great location and spacious rooms. Staff was very accommodating resolving the multiple issues with this really old property that needs updates and upgrades. Staff was very friendly and location great if you need to be in downtown Richmond (but nothing really to see or do unless there for work) but that is where it ends. The owners need to spend some money to get the property back in the shape. Pictures online are misleading. It’s an old building. Tiny elevators that may accommodate two with luggage. Had no hot water several times and would have to call to get it working. Sink faucet didn’t drain properly. Toilet would not flush properly. Shower faucet dripped constantly. Rooms are dated and old feeling in desperate need of updating. Common areas just feel old and worn. For the money and less headache stay elsewhere. But if not picky and need space it’s fine. Warning several buildings are being rehabilitated behind the hotel so the back rooms have constant construction noise.

The TVs could use an upgrade. Smart tv or ability to stream would have been nice.

Excellent location right behind state capitol, and within walking distance of VCU Medical main hospital, which is why I was visiting. Don’t have any negatives

Great stay! All of the staff, valets, front desk, housekeeping were nice and attentive and helpful!

The hotel was very dirty. The room was a nice size room, but the floors hadn’t been swept or vacuumed. They also were very very dirty. I spilled some water on the floor and wiped it up with a towel and the towel was black. The shower leaked and made noice on the drain all night. The air conditioner fan was scraping on something making a lot of noise when it would turn on and off. We went to the restaurant for breakfast our first morning. It had been open for a while, but we stood out there for about 10 minutes before someone came out from the kitchen. We had scoped out several tables but every table was filthy from the night before. The floors had food all over them. It had not been cleaned. We just got up and left and went to Starbucks. I worked out in the fitness room two mornings. The treadmills were covered in sweat and had not been cleaned. They were filthy too. The second morning we were there, when I went to the fitness room, the lobby was filled with marijuana smoke, it was even in the elevators. Now I know why there is such a strong air freshener/cleaner smell in the lobby. It’s to try and cover up the marijuana. I would never stay here again. Seems like there is no management for the cleaning crew, the restaurant or the front desk and valet staff.

The location of the property was great. The size of the room was great as well. The images online make it look fresh and updated but it really needed some work. The wall and bathroom by our shower was damaged by water and you could see there is probably mold behind it. It wasn’t bad but a little more run down than I was expecting.

Staff is wonderful, our suite was great, and your bar/restaurant is pretty cool

Felt overpriced for the quality of room, no view (construction site), and there weren’t really any other amenities included in room rate.

No hot water in morning. Only cold shower. No bottled water in room. Thin walls w a lot of noise from neighbors, hallway & elevator
